The Shields Lane Solutions Development Study is now in Phase 2, and we need your input to shape the future of Shields Lane (9800 South)! In this phase, we are defining the key needs and issues along the corridor, focusing on traffic flow, safety, and active transportation for pedestrians and bikers.
The project team has been busy analyzing current conditions, with particular attention to westbound traffic congestion during the evening rush hour and the safety concerns surrounding walking and biking along the corridor. This section of Shields Lane is an important route that provides access to three schools—two elementary and one middle school—as well as future north-south trail connections and other key destinations. It also plays a crucial role in the South Jordan General Plan’s vision of enhancing east-west bike travel and promoting active lifestyles.
In Phase 2, we’re creating models to test the impacts of potential designs and strategies on traffic and active transportation. Your feedback will help us prioritize what matters most as we evaluate each solution. Our goal is to ensure that any changes improve the experience for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
We encourage you to participate in this process by taking the Phase 2 survey online [LINK]. Your responses will be vital as we continue to refine options and move forward with a shared vision for this corridor's future.
This study is a collaborative effort led by South Jordan City staff, the Wasatch Front Regional Council, consultant firms, and a Stakeholder Committee comprised of City leadership, residents, school and business representatives, and regional transportation agencies. The project will continue through the end of the year, with opportunities for public input throughout.
