  1. Accessibility

    Accessibility

South Jordan is committed to making websites and applications across our website accessible for all people, including those with varying impairments. By prioritizing accessibility, we demonstrate our commitment to those we serve, fostering inclusivity and ultimately enhancing the user experience for everyone.

In an effort to expand accessibility, we hope to reach those with the following disabilities:

    • Limited or no vision
    • Motor functionality
    • Limited or no auditory perception
    • Cognitive abilities

To achieve this goal, the state has adopted a design system that includes an accessibility standards checklist. Key takeaways from that list include a focus on the following:

    Headings, Text

    • Content is structured logically using HTML to support screen reader use.
    • Text is large enough and has the right contrast to be legible.
    • The text is in plain language, understandable at an 8th-grade level.

    Color

    • Contrast requirements are met for all text and elements on the site layout.
    • Color is not the only method used to convey meaning in a specific interaction or piece of information.

    Images

    • Images that enhance the site's content include descriptive alternative text for screen readers.
    • Text that overlaps images maintains legibility by meeting contrast requirements.

    Forms

    • All form elements have a descriptive label
    • Elements are both visibly noticeable and announced by screen readers when they have focus.

    Content with Motion

    • Audio and video content should not start immediately.
    • The user should also be able to start, stop, and pause any video and most motion.

    Browser Zooming

    • When the user zooms in on a page, the content and elements on a page are resized and reoriented appropriately.
    • Text remains legible

    Videos

    • Provide captions or transcripts for videos for those with limited or no hearing.

    PDFs

    • Ensure that PDF documents meet contrast requirements and are properly tagged for screen readers.
