SoJo Soccer Rules U9-U13

FIELD: 55yds long x 35yds wide

BALL SIZE: Size 4

TEAMS: 6 v 6 if rosters are 8 or more at game time otherwise 5 v 5, goalies included.

SUBSTITUTION: Coaches will substitute on the fly during a dead ball by alerting the referee.

LENGTH OF GAME: 10-15 minute warmup practice, (2) 20-minute halves with a 5-minute halftime. (4) quarters may be used if a team does not have players to substitute or weather conditions warrant multiple hydration breaks.

START OF GAME: Referees will begin the clock with the whistle.

HALFTIME: Referees will give 2 whistle blows to indicate halftime.

END OF GAME: Referees will give 3 whistle blows to indicate the end of the game.

REFEREES: Referees will be on the field and will officiate the game. Referees will manage the clock, gameplay, and substitutions.

OFFSIDES: Offsides will not be called by referees, but players cannot take advantage of this by staying on the opposing side of the field waiting for the ball. Referees will ask players to move back downfield.

SCORING: The ball must be across midfield for a goal to count.

THROW-IN: A throw-in is awarded to the opponents of the player who last touched the ball when the whole of the ball passes over the touchline, on the ground or in the air. Keep both feet on the ground and throw the ball with both hands from behind and over the head from the point where it left the field of play.

GOAL KICK: A goal kick is awarded when the whole ball passes over the goal line, on the ground, or in the air, having last touched a player of the attacking team, and a goal is not scored. Place the ball on the goal line next to the goal and kick it in.

CORNER KICK: A corner kick is awarded when the whole ball passes over the goal line, on the ground, or in the air, having last touched a player of the defending team, and a goal is not scored. Place the ball in the corner area nearest to the point where it left the field and can kick it in.

FREE KICKS: All free kicks are direct. Defenders must be 10 yards away. If the free kick is closer than 5 yards from the edge of the goal box, the ball will be moved back in line with the penalty spot on the field.

GOAL BOX VIOLATIONS: Players are not to interfere with the goalie inside the goal box. Goalies are allowed to handle a ball when played in by the opposing team. Goalies must not use their hands when the ball is played in by a teammate. The goalie can not use hands outside of the goal box.

PENALTY KICKS: Free kicks resulting in a penalty will be taken from the penalty spot and players from each team will line up on the half-field line.

SLIDING: Players may not slide in this league. Referees will warn players to stop.

UNIFORMS: South Jordan Soccer reversible green/silver

EQUIPMENT: Shoes and shin guards must be worn. No medal cleats.

SPECTATORS: Must remain on the outside of the game field.
